Sally Kehoe

1) Name:Sally
Sourname: Kehoe
Place and year of birth: Toowoomba (Australia) 25/9/1986
Training location: Training in Adelaide (South Australia)
Home club: Sydney University Boat Club

2) When and why did you begin rowing?
I was offered a sporting scholarship to attend a school in Brisbane which was the nearest city to where I grew up. My sports were swimming and athletics. When I started in 1999, I did not like the swimming program and started rowing during the winter, loved it and never looked back!

3) ) What are the best and worst things about this sport?
The best parts about this sport are the people you meet from all over the world and beautiful places that it takes you! And also the moment at dusk when the water is glass, the sun is setting and you are able to hear the boat glide between each stroke. The worst is the time spent away from family and friends.

4)Who has been the greatest inspiration to you in the world of rowing?
The many great coaches that I have been so fortunate to have had in my career.

5) What are your secret ambitions both in and outside of rowing?
Nothing to secret about wanting to win a gold medal at the Olympics, preferably London 2012, but outside of rowing, I would love to work for the United Nations Development Program in developing economies in third world countries.

6) You find an old blade washed up on the banks of Lucerne. As you wipe it clean, the "Genie of Lucerne" appears and offers you three wishes to improve rowing in your country. What would you wish for?
Lucerne" appears and offers you three wishes to improve rowing in your country. What would you wish for? One would be for the national training centre to be re-located out of Canberra, especially during the winter! Possibly move to the Gold Coast in Queensland! Number two would be to remove 'ergo week's' from the national program – this occurs every three months to 'test' where we are at Number three would be… well I could get in trouble for that one!

7)Would you encourage your children to row?
I don't have children and I am probably many years off having children, but I probably would encourage them to row because of the people you meet and the mental toughness it offers. However, if they didn't want to naturally commit to the time it takes, I would not be bothered.

8) Which is the most beautiful place that you have rowed and where would you most like to row?
The most beautiful place I have rowed was in Sabaudia, just south of Roma… but Lucerne is definitely the most beautiful course!

8+ If you could ask someone from the world of rowing a question, what would it be and to whom?
We will do our best to ask them on your behalf! I would want to ask Frieda Svensson what her training program has been for the last few years, that allowed her to achieve the amazing feat of becoming World Champion in the single scull in 2010.
